Britain’s Got Talent fans have been floored by the skills of Susan Boyle once again as unseen footage from her debut audition has been shared for the first time.
It has been sixteen years since 63-year-old Susan first appeared on Britain’s Got Talent and was catapulted to international stardom in the third season of the show. She took to the famous stage in-front of the then-line-up of judges which consisted of 64-year-old Simon Cowell, 53-year-old Amanda Holden and 59-year-old Piers Morgan.
With a birds nest of hair and a dowdy dress sense, Susan made an understated first impression – with many not expecting her to exhibit much in the way of talent. However, she then opened her mouth to sing the iconic song I Dreamed A Dream from the stage musical Les Miserables.
Her powerhouse performance blew the judges, live studio audience, and viewing public away – and she went on to the next stage of the competition as well as sealing a seat in pop culture history. Now with BGT set to return for its seventeenth season later this month, the team behind the show have raked through the archives and uncovered some never before seen clips of Susan discussing her success on the stage.
Uploading a clip to Instagram, and directing fans to a longer video on YouTube, the Britain’s Got Talent team wrote: “The audition that shocked the world… Watch Susan Boyle: The UNSEEN #BGT Journey on the official BGT YouTube channel.”
Footage then shows Susan declaring: “This is phenomenal. Really good. The best thing that’s ever happened to me. Like, to get three yeses… What can I say?”
She continued: “Well, I can’t believe I’ve waited so long because, maybe I should have done it when I was younger? I don’t know.” Asked: “But now?” She continued: “Now… I think I’m ready. I think I’m ready. I can be who I want to be now and it’s really changed my life.”
Fans also saw a fresh faced Simon Cowell in the new clips (

Simon is then showing commenting: “There are rare moments when you do this show where someone completely captures the audience. And that’s what happened. She had the audience with her halfway through. And she saw it, the audience felt it, and it was an incredible moment.”
The head judge then confessed: “I wasn’t expecting it. I was kidding on the day. No one was expecting it. She wasn’t expecting it. This woman can sing.” The unearthed clip delighted fans – with many taking to the comments section to share their happiness at seeing Susan basking in the glow of her own success.
One fan typed: “An inspiration”. Another added: “A special moment.” While a further fan declared: “My favourite auction ever.” Britain’s Got Talent will return to ITV on Saturday 20 April at 7:30pm – with the very next episode airing the following day, again on ITV1, at 7:40pm.
